Challenge Coins Plus Helps Design Family Reunion Coins

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

Families are every bit as unique as the custom challenge coins that we create for them. Some are small and subtle while others are large and energetic. Some are basic while others are extremely noticeable. It doesn’t matter what type of family you come from, we can help you design a custom challenge coin that is just right for your family reunion.

Information to Include on Your Family’s Unique Coin

When families gather to celebrate their lineage, custom coins are handed out to each family member in attendance. The coins can have a myriad of information on them including the following:

  • The family crest
  • The family name
  • The family tree
  • A map or flag from the country where the family originates from

Being able to take advantage of two sides of our coins gives family the freedom and flexibility to incorporate all the information that they want to.

Each Year Feature a New Design on Your Custom Challenge Coin

Instead of handing out a t-shirt at your next reunion, consider offering each family member a one-of-a kind family reunion coin. Each year, come up with a new design that is meaningful to the family. Honor a loved one who is no longer with you with a custom memorial coin. Celebrate milestone events by incorporating personal information into the challenge coin’s design.

Celebrate Milestone Events Like Birthdays and Anniversaries

Maybe it is the grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary, celebrate that on the coin. With so many options, you will undoubtedly have as much fun coming up with the design as you will have handing them out to your relatives. After a few years, your collection will contain coins that you can instantly look at and remember the family reunion and any other special events that took place that year.

Share Your Family’s Heritage with Custom Challenge Coins

You can see from the coin here that this family’s roots go back to Cuba but have stretched out to the U.S. The family’s crest and the words “La Familia Perez” helps add to the appeal of the custom challenge coins. The American flag intertwined with the Cuban flag conveys the family’s rich personal history. Details like these are what make custom challenge coins unforgettable.

Police Challenge Coins for Pipes and Drums Band

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

Founded in 1999, the Pipes and Drums of the Chicago Police Department is a not-for-profit Police Bagpipe and Drum band. The mission of the group is simple. It is to “Honor Our Fallen” comrades, their families and friends in their time of need. The band has been privileged to participate in the honor ceremonies of their own fallen heroes as well as police officers and firefighters across the Midwest.

We recently created custom challenge coins for our customer, the Chicago Police Force Bagpipe and Drums Band. Each member of the band is an active officer. Their main goal is to honor and support the family and friends of police officers that have lost their life. Through competitions where they showcase their talents, they are able to spread their message and make a mark on their hometowns and surrounding communities.

Trading Coins with Other Bands is a Tradition

Custom challenge coins are handed out and traded with other bagpipe and drum bands from around the country. Police coins like these are gaining popularity because they give each distinct group within the police force a chance to own a personal coin that is custom made for the group. With so many different teams in the force, coins are a universal piece of memorial that ties all its members together.

Different Types of Metal Add to the Look and Appeal of Challenge Coins

A unique finish can be found on the backside of this coin. The brushed recessed metal was a specific request made by the band to help achieve a distinct look that they were going for. A more common finish for recessed areas would be textured metal or even smooth metal.

Different textures add a certain quality to challenge coins and give their recipients the feeling that they are valued. 3D images, sequential numbering, dual plating, and custom edges also highlight a custom coin’s unique artwork. These are options that we offer our customers that help add to their appeal. Coins with higher perceived value are the first to be traded at events.

ROTC Coins Are Visual Reminders For Its Recipients

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

ROTC programs are present on high school and college campuses across the nation.  The three branches of the military that offer this unique training program are the Army, Navy, and the Air Force. Participants in the program learn leadership skills, research areas of interest in terms of their career choices, receive scholarships that help them fund their educations, and give themselves an advantage by cultivating skills and experience prior to education.  Graduates of ROTC programs enjoy immense rewards.  In fact, once you make it through the program, you enter the military as an officer.

Challenge Coins Help Seal Bonds

Coins are made from high school to college programs that want to create a piece of memorabilia.  When you go through intense training like this, you form deep and long lasting bonds.  Custom challenge coins help capture the essence of these groups.  Creativity is always welcome when the design process starts.  If you can think of it, we can make it.

Each Program and Class Can Have Their Own Custom Designed Challenge Coin

Depending on which branch of ROTC program you are in, you will want to make sure you include the branch seal and the unit number you are a part of.  Like the example you see here, this ROTC program was from M.I.T. so a reference to Paul Revere was included on their coins.

Each program and class can keep one side of the coin universal to represent their school or branch of the military.  The other side can be used to reflect the unique personality of the ROTC program and school that has made it part of its curriculum.  This allows for endless possibilities in terms of design.  Each coin that we create for colleges and universities with ROTC programs are every bit as unique as the people that they are given to.

Before your next ROTC program starts, consider ordering custom challenge coins.  We can help you determine the size, shape, style, and colors that your coins should be.  We can even give your direction as to what images and text to use.  Visit http://www.challengecoinsplus.com for inspiration.  You can also call 1-800-252-0904 or email info@challengecoinsplus.com today for a free price quote and full color digital proof.

Navy Challenge Coins Are Rich In Tradition and Design

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

The U.S. Navy was founded on 13 October 1775, and the Department of the Navy was established on 30 April 1798. The Department of the Navy has three principal components: The Navy Department, consisting of executive offices mostly in Washington, D.C.; the operating forces, including the Marine Corps, the reserve components, and, in time of war, the U.S. Coast Guard.

Mission of the Navy

The mission of the Navy is “To maintain, train and equip combat-ready Naval forces capable of winning wars, deterring aggression, and maintaining freedom on the seas.  The 21st century United States Navy maintains a sizable global presence, deploying in such areas as East Asia, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. It engages in forward areas during peacetime, and rapidly responds to regional crises, making it an active player in U.S. foreign and defense policy.”

3D Images Increase the Appearance and Value of Custom Coins

Navy coins are some of the most beautiful coins that we produce.  Often, we include 3D images on Navy challenge coins.  Images of anchors, ships, and department seals make for great focal points and details.  Recipients of the coins can run their fingers along the raised images and know what type of detail has gone into creating them.

Custom Challenge Coins Are Never the Same Because They Are Unique

With so many units within the Navy, no two coins are the same. Although most include common elements, the arrangement of these elements and the use of accompanying text is what sets each coin apart from one another.  That’s what makes custom coins so popular.  People know that they are getting a truly unique and memorable gift.

Coins Serve As a Visual Reminder of the Time Spent Serving Our Country

While sailors are off on duty, they become part of smaller regiments, squadrons, and specialty teams alike.  It is in these tight knit groups that that the bonds of war are formed.  Navy coins capture this snapshot in the life of the sailor and will serve as a constant and everlasting visual reminder of the time spent serving our great country.

The coin you see here has a 3D mold of the dolphins that serve as the attendants to the Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea and patron deity of sailors.  They are symbolic of a calm sea. The insignia of the U.S. Navy’s Submarine Service is a Submarine flanked by two dolphins.  This helps the coin retain an important part of military history.

The great part of the 3D mold for this coin was the scaling that we did on the dolphins tails.  You could see every last detail in each of the dolphins which made the coin truly come to life.  3D molding is one of the many options we offer to our customers as ways to enhance the appearance and value of challenge coins.

Retirement Challenge Coins Are a Memorable Way to Mark the End of a Career

Monday, August 29th, 2011

More and more, we are designing challenge coins to mark the retirement of our customers.  They contact us from all walks of life, whether from the corporate world, the armed forces or police and fire departments, everyone is getting in on the action.  No one wants to leave the workforce without a personal memento reminding them of the type of work that they did and the type of sacrifices that they made.

Challenge Coins Make the Perfect Gift for Guests At Retirement Parties

We are finding that at the retirement parties, the honoree is handing out a gift to his or her guests.  Challenge coins make the perfect gift for situations like this because of their affordability, their customization options, and their ability to showcase meaningful images and text.  In fact, they have higher perceived value than many other types of memorabilia.  That’s because of their distinct look and weightiness.  A person can hold a challenge coin in his or her hand and know they are getting something amazing.

Common Themes Bond Retirement Coins Together

Retirement coins seem to share some common themes like incorporating the retiree’s name, the company they worked for, and the dates that they served the company.  This helps add to the personal history of the coins and is ultimately what makes them so unique.  People that attended the retirement party will always have something to look back on to remind them of the years that they spent with their family member or friend.

Custom Shapes to Fit the Retiree’s Personality

As you can see here, retirement coins don’t have to always be perfectly round.  They can be a unique shape that is significant to the company or department that the retiree is from.  This customer was part of the world famous black eagles so the significance of the shape is evident.

Before you retire, consider giving custom challenge coins a try.  Give us a call at 1-800-252-0904 or email info@challengecoinsplus.com to request a free quote.  You can also visit http://www.challengecoinsplus.com to see the different options we offer that help your retirement challenge coins stand out.

Masonic Challenge Coins Are a Great Way to Bond Lodge Members

Monday, August 29th, 2011

Freemasonry is a fraternal organization that dates back to the late 16th to early 17th century. Freemasonry now exists in various forms all over the world, with a membership estimated at around six million. There are approximately 150,000 under the jurisdictions of the Grand Lodge of Scotland and Grand Lodge of Ireland, over a quarter of a million under the jurisdiction of the United Grand Lodge of England and just under two million in the United States.

To become a Freemason, the following requirements must be met:

  • A man must be of his own free will.
  • He must believe in a Supreme Being.
  • Be at least the minimum age which is usually 18-25.
  • Have good morals and a good reputation.
  • Be of sound mind and body.
  • Be free-born not a slave or bondsman.
  • Be capable of furnishing character references

Lodges Create Their Own Custom Design Challenge Coins to Give Out

Each lodge has the ability to create their own custom challenge coin. The double sided nature of the coin allows two different images to be incorporated into the design. Typically, lodges use one sign to establish the fact that they are Masons. That’s why they include the Masonic square and compass as the most prominent image on their coins. Other symbolic images are incorporated depending on the lodge’s vision for the coin. With so many known and secret symbols, no two Masonic challenge coins are ever alike.

Antiquing Coins Gives Them a Worn, Weathered Look

The coin you see here is a traditional die struck gold coin. We could have added color fills to this coin which would have changed it to a soft enamel coin. Another technique we use on a lot of Masonic coins is an antique finish. The antique finish is brushed over the entire coin and any recessed metal areas will absorb the finish leaving it with a worn, older look to it.

If your Masonic lodge is in need of custom challenge coins, give us a call. We’ll be more than happy to help you come up with a design that fits your needs and the unique personality of your members. Call 1-800-252-0904 or info@challengecoinsplus.com today.

Custom Challenge Coins for Cities and Municipalities

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

A growing trend among cities and municipalities is to order custom challenge coins. The coins are used for a multitude of purposes. Considered the ultimate educational tool, these items can be used to inform, announce, reward, motivate, and promote.

Some of the ways we help cities with their coins is as follows:

  • To help travel and tourism grow
  • To honor the achievements of prominent city worker/leaders
  • To educate the public about a certain cause
  • To highlight and upcoming event

These examples are just a few of the ways that custom coins can be used. In fact, if you think hard enough, you’ll be able to add a few other suggestions to our list. The reason why we say this is because custom challenge coins are very versatile.

The city of Key West needed a coin that immediately was recognizable. One of the most prominent places in Key West is the “Southern Most Point” buoy statue. Located on the water, tourists from all over the world have undoubtedly had a picture snapped in front of this monument. Having this landmark featured on the challenge coin makes it easily distinguishable by anyone familiar with Key West.

Another feature of the coin is the seal that is used on one of the sides. With the image of the conch clearly in the seal, it is no wonder that Key West’s’ inhabitants call themselves the “Conch Republic”. Custom challenge coins are personal and memorable. They are tied to an individual or city’s history and therefore considered the ultimate collector’s item. Whenever you live in a city or municipality, you want to remember all of its sights, people, and special events. Challenge coins are perfect reminders of everything there was to enjoy in your area of the country.

To continue the nautical theme that Key West evokes, we added a rope border to both sides of this one of a kind coin. Details like these help finish up the challenge coins making them even more visually appealing. A few of the different types of edges that we offer include bezel edge, oblique line edge, and cross cut edge. We also offer dual plating, 3D molds, custom cut outs, and sequential numbering as additional ways to make your challenge coins stand out.

Coin Holders That We Use at Challenge Coins Plus

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

At Challenge Coins Plus, we have a few different coin holders for you to choose from.  All of our custom challenge coin orders come with the option to have your coin placed in a free PVC coin envelope.  Each coin is individually tucked into the envelope by our production department.

Another common coin holder is our coin capsule.  This clear, hard plastic case fits snugly around your coin and allows you to see both sides of the coin while protecting it from the elements.  This allows you to store and display your challenge coins without damaging them.

We also have acrylic coins cases and black velvet boxes which both offer great protection and a classy presentation.  These items are often used at awards ceremonies and banquets where recipients are being honored.  If you want to add to the overall theme of an event, don’t forget to include coin holders as part of your challenge coin order.

Plastic stands are another great option.   Display your favorite coins in your office or at home easily.  Because these coin holders are meant to stand upright, they can be placed on a shelf or in a glass display case easily.

Coin holders are clearly an option that you don’t want to forget when you contact us to order your custom challenge coins.  They add to the overall appearance of custom coins and make it easy to keep them free from damage as well as the elements for many years to come.

Coin holders are easy-to-use, compact, and a real value.  To see pictures of the different presentation options that we offer, visit http://www.challengecoinsplus.com today.  You can also call 1-800-252-0904 toll-free or email info@challengecoinsplus.com to request a free quote.  Either way, we want you to be happy with your custom challenge coins and coin holders.

Memorial Challenge Coins Honor Those That We Have Lost

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

Far too often we lose friends and family.  Whether it be an accident, a war casualty or because of illness, death is part our lives.  For a lot of motorcycle clubs, the best way to honor a lost friend is to make a custom challenge coin in their honor.   Military men and women practice this same tribute when there is a fallen soldier in their unit.

Remembering with Personalized Quotes and Sayings

With our challenge coins, we have the ability to incorporate a favorite picture of your loved one on the coin itself.  We do this through a process called offset printing.  Other ways to remember lost ones is to include a favorite saying that they had or include a quote that represents how you feel about them.

Motorcycle Clubs Pay Tribute by Holding Rides for Lost Members

Motorcycle clubs often have “rides” for their lost brothers/sisters and this is where the custom coins are handed out.  Usually the ride information is on one side of the coin and the dedication to the lost one is on the other side.  This allows members of the group to have an item that reminds them of their friend that they can keep with them at all times.

Dog Tag Shaped Challenge Coins Honor Military Loved Ones

Military dog tags are also a way to honor a loved one.  Information usually included on the custom shaped challenge coins includes:

  • The branch of service
  • The unit
  • The date that they were killed in action

Challenge Coins for Co-Workers or Beloved Teachers

You don’t have to be in one of the two groups listed above.  Challenge coins can be handed out for co-workers, or maybe a beloved teacher at a university.  Our ability to customize makes it easy to put together a coin that honors the memory of our loved ones.

Being able to honor the memory of our lost loved ones is an important part of the grieving process.  Although other types of memorial items exist.  None have the same type of impact that custom challenge coins do.  Designed in a way to pay tribute to the people that mean the most to us, memorial coins are growing in popularity each and every day.

Learn more about this phenomenon by visiting http://www.challengecoinsplus.com.  You can also call 1-800-252-0904 or email info@challengecoinsplus.com to discuss with us your plans for a memorial coin for your lost loved one.

Air Force Challenge Coins Make the Perfect Graduation Gift

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

Air Force schools from all over the U.S. contact us to help design the graduation classes custom challenge coins.  Depending on what school or base has contacted us, we advise making the front of the coin common so it accommodates all the students in attendance and the back of the coin custom so it showcases the individuality of each class.  Creating the coin this way is ideal because it allows the school or base to be represented the same on each classes’ coin while simultaneously allowing each class to feel special and unique.

Personalized Messages Make Each Class Feel Special and Honored

On the coin you see here, the front represents what class or school the coin is from and the back lets you know that this particular graduating class shared the phrase of “turning rocks into diamonds”.  Only the graduating class knows exactly what that means which is why it is memorable for the students it is given to.  Custom challenge coins are ideal for this reason.  You never run the risk of some other group or organization having the exact same coins as you.  That’s because once we create your design and place the order to be manufactured, we keep the artwork on file for you and you alone.  We may showcase a picture of your finished product on our website or on our blog but that’s only to demonstrate how flexible we are with the design process.

A Keepsake Worth Hanging Onto for Years and Years

Air Force challenge coins are handed out to each graduating class.  These tokens are kept with each graduate for the rest of their careers and life.  All one has to do is look at their graduation coin and they instantly jump back in time and remember the classmates and times they had while they were in school.  No other type of memento carries the same appeal that custom challenge coins do.  They are made from quality materials and crafted with care.  They are made from metal so they have a solid weight to them.  They are also intricately designed and personalized with your class’ information.  That’s what makes them so special.

Presentation Options Help Store and Protect Class Challenge Coins

Sometimes, a graduating class will elect a class leader and present him/her with a coin that is in black velvet presentation case.  This way is sure to impress anyone who receives a coin in this type of case.  Presentation options are offered as a way of enhancing an awards or graduation ceremony.  Velvet bags and boxes as well as acrylic cases and coin capsules look professional and help protect the coin from dust, dirt, and fingerprints.
