Zombie Themed Challenge Coins Are the Newest Craze

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Movies, television series, and pop culture have recently been inundated with zombie related material. Sometimes called the undead or walkers, zombies are more popular now then they have ever been.  Groups from around the world have come to us with their custom challenge coin requests.  They wanted a unique product to tie into their theme and knew that we were the company to help them do just that.

The groups that order coins from us take zombies very seriously.  In fact, many believe that if a person is prepared to survive a zombie invasion, they will also be prepared for anything else that may come their way. The zombie apocalypse is approaching and groups are banning together to be ready to survive amongst the dead.

Now, the zombie craze has reached us here at Challenge Coins Plus.  We helped design a coin for a group that calls themselves the Zombie Response Team.  Using their specifications as a guide, we were able to utilize their logo and colors as the basis for their coin design.  We also created custom embroidered patches for the group.

Custom challenge coins like this are used to prove that you are a member of a particular group or club.  Adding a Latin phrase always helps coins with their sense of history and military roots.  The patches we made for ZRT can be sewn on duffle bags, hats, jackets etc. and proudly display what this group is all about.  We offer a number of different products in addition to challenge coins.  We suggest you look around our site or ask us for recommendations when you call to inquire about your custom challenge coins.

Be prepared for the zombie invasion.  Create your own custom challenge coins and be part of one of the hottest trends.  Visit, email or call 1-800-252-0904 toll-free to request a free price quote and full color digital proof.  The Zombie Response Team can attest that a little preparation goes a long way.  Contact us today.

Balfour Beaty Produces Special Coins for Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Balfour Beaty Construction had us produce these special coins.  They were the construction company responsible for building the headquarters.  The coins themselves were for the ribbon cutting ceremony and had to be delivered on time.  We, fortunately, were able to create the coins for them and have them to their doorstep in time for their special event.

Decorative Edges and 3D Images Make Challenge Coins Stand Out

We added a beautiful rope border to each side of the challenge coin to give it definition.  A red, white and blue American Flag waving in the breeze dominates the front of the coin which has the company name along with their promise to each client.  The back has a hand sculpted 3D picture of 2 soldiers carrying one of their wounded warriors to safety.

Presentation Options Make Coins Even More Special

If you would like to increase the wow factor at your next ribbon cutting, contact us today so we may begin working on your design right away.  Keep in mind we offer a wide variety of presentation cases that will take the ceremony to the next level.  You can see these options by visiting

The American Kettlebell Club Creates One-of-a-Kind 3D Challenge Coin

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

The kettlebell or girya is a cast iron weight.  It resembles a cannonball with a handle, weighs between 4 to 175 pounds, and is used to perform ballistic exercises that combine cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility training.  Unlike a traditional dumbbell, the kettlebell’s center of mass is extended beyond the hand.  These exercises benefit the lower back, legs, and shoulders as well as increase grip strength.

A large kettlebell company asked us to help make a coin in the shape of their logo.  Because a kettlebell is three-dimensional, we recommended going with a 3D mold of their logo.  The result was a fantastic representation of their logo in the form of a challenge coin.  Designs like these get attention quickly.  People love to collect unusual items and custom made coins fall right into that category.

Adding a Ring to the Top of Challenge Coins Makes Them More Versatile

The ring at the top was added so that these could be given out to competitors in the World Kettlebell Lifting Championships.  The challenge coins were also made to hand out to key sponsors of the event as well as staff and directors.  If a person wanted to, they could easily put the challenge coin onto a key ring or jump ring and wear it on a necklace.

Your Concept or Ideas Can Make Exciting Challenge Coin Designs

Unique and challenging coins like this one make our job fun and exciting.  We love being able to take a person’s concept and turn it into a real and tangible gift item to hand out.  In the case of this challenge coin, we were able to take an idea and really make it into an exceptional design.

Contact Challenge Coins Plus today with your unusual challenge coin design.  Visit, email or call 1-800-252-0904 toll-free to request a no obligation, free quote and full color digital proof.  We’ll also be able to answer any questions you might have regarding the ordering process.

Rugby Challenge Coins Bond Teammates for Life

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Rugby football is a popular sport in England. It developed from a version of football played at Rugby School and was originally one of several different versions of football played at English public schools during the 19th century.  The innovation of running with the ball was introduced sometime between 1859 and 1865.

Custom challenge coins like the one pictured here motivate and remind players about goals set at the beginning of season.  Acronyms like the one you see here are visual reminders of characteristics needed to be successful.  The designer of this coin concept was very witty with the play on words with Hilton “Head”.  Details like these are what help separate average coins and great coins.  This is a great coin.

Rugby clubs often times create these coins for each of the members and hand out coins to new players.  When they play other teams, the athletes will trade coins with other players and collect a wide range of coins over the years.  If your rugby team needs to raise funds to travel or new equipment, selling these coins is an excellent fundraising opportunity.

Clean, simple designs like this coin speak volumes about the type of guys ordering the coins.  With the island and crest on one side, this black coin trimmed in green and gold is sure to impress.  Color, texture, and images are all important aspects of a custom challenge coin design.

Challenge coins are great for athletes of all types due to their personal nature and unique appearance.  Because they are created from scratch, different design elements can be used.  For example, if a rugby team has a mascot they want featured on one side of the coin, it isn’t a problem.  If they want to feature an image of one of their players on another side of the coin, it’s also not a problem.  We can also make recommendations in regard to size, shape, and font style.

Before you miss out again this season, consider the positive impact that custom challenge coins make.  Visit today to request a free quote.  You can also email or call 1-800-252-0904 toll-free.  Whatever way you choose to reach us, know that your satisfaction is our ultimate priority.

The Attorney General of Alabama Designs Inspirational Challenge Coin

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

We had the privilege of working with the state of Alabama’s Attorney General recently.  He wanted a coin that inspired those who received it.  A favorite Bible verse was used to convey his message as seen on the back of the coin.  The front has a section of the southeastern part of the USA where his great state is located.  The multiple colors used for the surrounding states really makes the front of this coin pop.

Challenge Coins Given Out to Dignitaries As an Act of Goodwill

Challenge coins like this are used to hand out to staff that go above and beyond the call of duty while working for the Attorney General.  He also takes coins with him as he travels in order to hand out to other dignitaries that he meets along his way.  This goodwill gesture earns him the respect of people wherever he goes.

Custom Made Coins Reflect Customers and Recipients’ Personalities

The edge was also custom created into the mold of the coin.  We started with a flat edge and then recessed the notches that you see going around the perimeter.  Creating coins according to your specifications is something we are very used to.  In fact, that’s the big appeal behind custom made challenge coins.  They reflect the personalities of the people that they’re made for.

Different Options Help Make Your Challenge Coins Stand Out

Some of the ways that you can help make your challenge coins stand out include:

  • 3D Molds
  • Dual Plating
  • Sequential Numbering

Miami University Police Department Creates Classic Custom Challenge Coin

Monday, October 24th, 2011

University police departments are getting in on the challenge coin scene.  Police forces nationwide have been ordering coins for years and now the university branches of these departments are contacting us with their requests.  The coins usually combine two worlds.  They create a blend of police roots with university pride.  Classic emblems like police officer badges and university coat of arms are great places to start your design idea.

Getting Your Message Across Using Color and Different Types of Finishes

There are a number of different ways to set your custom challenge coins apart on campus.  First of all, you can play with the size and shape of your custom made coins.  Next, you can add a decorative edge, a 3D image or a bottle opener mechanism.  Last but not least, incorporating school colors is another effective way to customize your university police challenge coin.  This coin in particular also has an antique finish on the back side which adds to the classic nature of this coin.  The antique wash instantly gives the coin an aged look which is a highly sought after detail.

Strong Pieces of Memorabilia, Custom Challenge Coins Bond Officers Together

Custom challenge coins like the one you see here bond police officers together.  No matter where they are, if they happen to see someone else with their exact coin, they will instantly have a bond with that person.  No other piece of memorabilia has such a strong and instant impact like a challenge coin does.  That’s because they are designed with the recipient in mind.  Custom coins are relevant and memorable.  They are rich in personal history and sentimental value.

University police departments can order challenge coins for different events throughout the year.  This allows them to really take advantage of the extra exposure they receive on campus.  At fundraisers and other special events, more people are likely to turn out because they’ve seen the coins around campus and know what group they belong to.

High School Athletic Challenge Coins Serve Many Purposes

Friday, October 21st, 2011

High school sports teams across the country are using challenge coins for a number of different reasons.  The coin pictured here was given to each member of the basketball team by their head coach.  If the boys excelled at certain tasks, they were rewarded with a special prize.

Tangible rewards like challenge coins help coaches and schools turn out the best players imaginable.  The reason behind this is quite simple.  When a young athlete feels valued, he or she will go the extra mile to make sure his or her performance is spot on.  This helps the athletes shine on and off the playing field or court.

Challenge Coins Motivate Young Players to Be the Best

Custom challenge coins like this help motivate and inspire young athletes.  These items are also a great way to generate money to help support the athletic program.  The basketball on the backside of the coin could be easily switched out with a baseball, football or volleyball depending on what sport is being played.  That’s the beauty behind custom coins.

Your Personal Details Add Value to Your Custom Coins

Including the school name, mascot, and colors are a great starting point for your next coin design.  This allows you to really make your challenge coins personal and meaningful for your players.  Having a unique memento on hand to look back at over the years is ideal for high schoolers because they’ll want to remember the time that they had being part of a sports team!

Presentation Options Make Awards Ceremonies Classy

Rolling Inferno Motorcycle Challenge Coins Are a Favorite of Its Firefighter Members

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

In November 2003, an Indianapolis Local 416 firefighter formed the Rolling Inferno M.C. The club was formed to promote the brotherhood of Firefighters and to support charities that care for children suffering from burn injuries.  Motorcycle clubs are often times formed by co-workers who share the same passion for riding bikes and promoting biker safety.  In the case of this customer, the members of the club are firefighters from the same station.

Firefighter Motorcycle Clubs Make Their Challenge Coins Extremely Unique

Firefighter M.C. coins are always some of the more interesting coins that we do.  Their designs use a lot of black, red, and silver along with flames, crosses, and skulls.  Custom challenge coins like the one you see here are handed out to each of the new members of the M.C.  This helps generate interest in the club and also makes new riders feel welcome.

Creighton Island Georgia Has Custom Challenge Coins Made to Hand Out to Its Visitors

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

Creighton Island is an inner barrier island in McIntosh County along Georgia’s coast that is privately owned.  It is roughly 2 ½ miles long and a mile wide.  Over time, wind, waves, tides, and storms have helped form the roughly 1,100 acres of high ground on Creighton.

The Island’s long, diverse history combines with great natural beauty to represent a unique microcosm of Georgia’s coast.  Groups of  8 to 12 can reserve a week on the island from October thru April. Bow hunters, plein air artists, naturalists, or other groups interested in hiking and studying the intercoastal marshlands are welcome. Day trips for artists can be arranged as well.

We were honored to help design a coin that will be handed out to visitors who make their way to the island.  The coin needed to represent the pure beauty of the island as well as provide information about this special place.  The family who owns the island has their name on the front of the coin along with a map of what the island looks like.

The back of the coin has a beautiful photograph of a long dock leading to the waterway which combines the land and the sea qualities that help define this piece of land.  A unique touch to this coin is that the customer added the coordinates of the island so that recipients of the coin will always  know how to get back to the island.  Other unique qualities of this custom coin are its beveled edge and the offset printed photograph that is covered with an epoxy coating.

Challenge coins are great for drawing attention to your island or tourist attraction.  In fact, they can be created in a variety of sizes, shapes, styles, and colors to fit your needs.  This allows you to get an accurate representation of your vision or design idea.  We send a full color digital proof to you to examine once we’ve created the artwork for your coins.  This ensures that you’re satisfied with their appearance before we send them to the production department.

Dallas Police Department Uses Challenge Coins to Dedicate Headquarters

Tuesday, October 18th, 2011

Police challenge coins come in many different shapes and sizes.  The Dallas PD contacted us and asked if we could help design a coin for the dedication of their new headquarters.  They really wanted an accurate picture of their new building to be displayed on their dedication coins.  We suggested using a high resolution photograph to achieve the look that they were after.

The front of the challenge coin is very traditional in that it has raised gold areas and recessed color enamel areas.  The front will have depth to it whereas the back will be smooth because of the epoxy that we cover printed photographs with.  The bezel edge of this coin immediately adds detail and intrigue to this coin.

In addition to the bezel edge, this coin has both silver plating and gold plating which adds an elegant touch.  Police coins are often times used in dedications like this, or as a way to identify a sub group in the force, or even as a way to honor a fallen officer.  Memorial challenge coins are very popular these days.  They are great for honoring exceptional individuals and the role that they played in the police force.

Family members, colleagues, and even members of the community appreciate having something concrete that they can look at to remember their loved ones and the lives that he or she touched.  Longer lasting than a t-shirt or sticker, they can be presented at a ceremony in an acrylic coin case or velvet box.

Custom challenge coins come in a variety of sizes, shapes, styles and colors.  They can include different types of decorative edges, 3D emblems, sequential numbering, dual plating, and even bottle opener mechanisms.  This allows customers to make their custom coins every bit as unique as they are.

Whatever the reason is, we hope you will give us a call or email us to discuss how we may help you with your next challenge coin project.  Visit  You can also email or call 1-800-252-0904 toll-free.
