Golden West Humanitarian Foundation Commissions Custom Challenge Coin to Help with Fundraising

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

The Golden West Humanitarian Foundation has a mission. They want to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of men, women and children residing in areas contaminated with landmines and unexploded ordnance. They do just that through the development of innovative and practical materials and technologies designed to combat life-threatening munitions. Through the values of innovation, forethought, partnership, appropriateness, impact, and affordability, the foundation is successful.

The challenge coin featured in this blog was made with fundraising in mind. Groups and foundations like the one mentioned above need money in order to operate. The main source of funding that they receive comes from private donations. These coins are given to individuals or companies that contribute a certain amount of time and money year in and year out to a cause. The thank you gifts are impressive and help secure future donations.

Challenge coins are meaningful and valued by anyone who receives one. They are not discarded like certificates or other types of paper awards. Many recipients of challenge coins proudly display them in a prominent location like a display case in their home or in their office on a desk or bookshelf. This allows others to see their award and also gives them a safe place to store their collectible.

By including the website on the actual coin, the donor can easily get back in touch with the foundation the next time he/she would like to make a donation. This is a plus for the charity or organization in question. Information like this is important and can be included on either the front or the back side of the challenge coin.

Three of the quadrants featured on one of the sides of the custom coin shows areas that the foundation focuses on. The other side of the coin has the foundation logo stamped proudly in the center with the website wrapped neatly around the bottom of the coin. Details like this make the award relevant and meaningful. That’s what makes custom made products so spectacular. They reflect the personality and values of the groups and foundations that create them.

Emergency Management Challenge Coins Shed Light on This Growing Field of Work

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Lately, it seems that we have been hit with our fair share of hurricanes, tornadoes and other disasters.  Every day in the news we hear of threats to our citizens and to our business from those wishing to harm us.  There is a group of people dedicated to helping organizations get through these emergencies and we recently created custom challenge coins for them.

Emergency Management personnel are trained in dealing with the strategic organizational management processes used to protect critical assets of an organization from hazard risks that can cause events like disasters and catastrophes and to ensure the continuance of the organization.

The coin you see here was made specifically for a county that wanted to honor its team. It shows visible symbols of disasters and hazards which alerts all that see it.  Custom challenge coins like this are awarded after a certain amount of training has been accomplished or a set goal has been achieved.  This allows groups to recognize the individuals on their teams that go the extra mile.

Another great use for coins like this is as an identifier.  If you arrive on the scene of a disaster, having this challenge coin on you will allow you quick and immediate access to where the disaster team is meeting.  Instead of having to worry about who or who shouldn’t be in a certain area, custom coins eliminate the hassle.  By flashing a coin, the disaster specialist can quickly and efficiently get to where he or she is going.

Help recognize the individuals on your team that attend special training sessions or go the extra mile to display skills that are beneficial to your group or company.  You can do this by contacting Challenge Coins Plus.  You can visit, email or call 1-800-252-0904 toll-free.

Knights of Columbus Group Creates Classic Master’s Coin of Excellence for Worthy Recipients

Monday, November 28th, 2011

The Knights of Columbus was founded in 1882 in the United States. It was named in honor of explorer Christopher Columbus. It is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal service organization with 1.8 million members in 15,000 councils and nearly 200 councils on college campuses. Any “practical Catholic” man aged 18 years old or older is welcome to join.

Councils have been chartered all over the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Guatemala, Panama, Dominican Republic, the Philippines, Guam, Spain, Japan, Cuba, and even Poland. All of the Order’s ceremonies and business meetings are restricted to members. Other events are open to the public. Knight activities are secretive as well as civil and religious. They often involve charitable acts. In fact, in 2010, the Order gave over US$154 million directly to charity (over $1.406 billion in charitable contributions and 653 million man hours in the last 10 years) and performed over 70 million hours of voluntary service. Over 413,000 pints of blood were also donated by members.

The custom challenge coin featured here was made for members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Province that showed excellence in certain areas. Different chapters across the country order coins for awards and recognitions that pertain to their chapter. This challenge coin is unique because of the true to life photo that is offset printed on the back. When you see the coin up close, the image is an exact duplicate of the artwork that was submitted to us by the chapter. We protect this image with a thin coating of epoxy that is referred to as epoxy dome.

Texas and U.S. flags help distinguish the different locations where this particular challenge coin will be going. The front has the very recognizable Knights’ logo which is great for identification purposes. A bold emblem or photograph is enough to grab people’s attention and add a level of prestige to custom coins. Our high polished gold finish adds value and style to this coin and the smooth recessed gold areas help give the raised areas nice dimension. Details like these add value to the custom challenge coins by making them relevant and memorable.

Take your club or organization to the next level with custom challenge coins. Visit to see all of the different ways we can make your coins stand out in a crowd. You can also email or call 1-800-252-0904 today to request a free price quote and full color digital proof. We’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have about the ordering process.

Marine Corps Ball Coins Honor the Birthday of This Proud and Distinguished Branch of the U.S. Military

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

Marine Corps Ball honors the birthday of the Marines.  This year’s celebration held on 11/11/11 was especially important because of its significant date.  People that attended the annual celebration knew that it would be extra special.

The first formal ball was celebrated in 1925.  Birthday celebrations took on various forms.  Dances were the most popular, mock battles, musical performances, pageants, and sporting events also took place.  Today’s balls are often attended by celebrities.  This year, singer and actor Justin Timberlake attended and blogged about his experience.

Custom challenge coins are a popular item to hand out at the ball to members of your unit.  The one pictured here was designed by 123rd for the 236th birthday of the Marine Corps.  It is classic die struck gold on the back and soft enamel color on the front.  A ram’s head is the logo for the unit.  It helps identify them and lets the recipient remember their time in that particular unit.

The coin pictured here is very distinguished because of the font the customer chose to use and the crossed swords and shield.  The Marine Corps logo is a must to include.  Classic red and gold Marine colors are often used on coins just like you see here.  Details like these add to the rich personal history of the coin and also make it attractive and personal.

You can also add sequential numbering to make the coin an extra special collector’s item.  Add-ons like these make all the difference.  They increase the visual appeal of the custom coins.  We offer a number of options that can take your coin’s design to the next level.

If you’re ready to share your design ideas with us, visit  You can also email or call us toll-free at 1-800-252-0904.  We’ll create special artwork for you and send you a full color digital proof to review.  You’ll receive it and a price quote via email.

American Legion Challenge Coins Honor Supporters

Monday, November 21st, 2011

The American Legion of Florida had Challenge Coins Plus create the coin they commissioned for their director.  He uses the coins to recognize supporters of the organization and wanted to use them at the national gathering of American Legion leaders happening this week.  The coin that we created was rich in style and personal information.  This allowed the recipients of the award to remember where it came from.

Custom Coins Are Personal, Meaningful, and Attractive

As you can see from the picture, the challenge coin we created has images on both the front and back sides.  The front side has the name of the director, Larry D. Sheets, on it.  It also has his title of National Vice Commander on it.  The image in the middle of the coin is the state of Florida which represents where he comes from and serves.  The words, “Serving With Pride Every Day” shows his commitment to the area and members of the American Legion.

Extending Your Message on the Back Side of Your Coin

The back side of the custom coin features the American Legion emblem along with the letters “US”.  This helps Mr. Sheets identify himself wherever he goes.  It also helps build the reputation of the organization in the state of Florida and elsewhere because people associate the logo with the American Legion.

Friday, November 18th, 2011

Over the last 10 years, poker has found its way into mainstream media.  You can see tournaments broadcast on television almost every night.  The goal in these tournaments is simple.  Competitors try to make it to the final table.  The final table is where one by one the final players in a tournament are knocked out leaving only one champion.  The winner usually receives a hefty sum of money and other exciting prizes.

Recently, a group of poker players called the Final Table Posse contacted us to make a custom challenge coin for their club.  Poker coins like the one pictured here are growing in popularity.  The challenge coins are a way for different clubs to honor new members or award outstanding accomplishments.

Karate School Turns to Challenge Coins Plus to Help Design Custom Challenge Coins for Their Students

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

Karate is a martial art that originated in the Ryukyu Islands which is now Okinawa, Japan.  It was developed from indigenous fighting methods called te and Chinese kenpo.  It uses punching, kicking, knee and elbow strikes, and open-handed techniques.  Some styles use grappling, locks, restraints, throws, and vital point strikes.

Karate and other martial arts schools are spreading across the country.  With the emergence of mixed martial arts, karate schools like U.S. Xtreme Karate are seeing a rise in number of students enrolling.  Because of this, they wanted to create custom challenge coins to hand out.  That’s why they contacted Challenge Coins Plus.  They wanted our assistance in creating an attractive and memorable challenge coin.

Karate schools use these coins in a variety of ways.  The coin you see here is handed out to students who excel in the qualities of a warrior.  The qualities that the school focuses on are self-discipline, honor, and perseverance.  It was very important for our customer that we include these qualities on their coin.

Other uses for these coins can be to hand them out as awards when certain belts are earned.  This tiered level of achievement encourages students to be their best.  Instead of stopping when they reach the next set of requirements, they strive to move on to the next belt color.

With the competition being so tough to grow karate schools, having custom coins as part of your school will go a long way in differentiating your school from others.  Including your school name, logo, and contact info on your coins is a great tool when it comes to branding and growing your business

This coin has an oblique edge which helps enhance its artwork.  Decorative edges are just one way that customers can make their challenge coins stand out.  We offer a number of different options.  You can learn more about them by visiting our website at

When you’re ready to request a quote, call 1-800-252-0904 or email  We’ll be more than happy to honor your request and answer any questions you might have.

Now Is the Time to Start Working on Holiday Challenge Coins for the Upcoming Season

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

Are you in charge of throwing your office holiday party?  If so, let us take one item off your list of things to do.  You can now check off party favors for your party goers because we have a great idea for you.  Choose a challenge coin to hand out to your guests as they come into the party.  Or, if you are having a meal, place one at each setting at the table so that when your guests sit to eat, they will see the coin and have something to converse about with others.

Include Your Company’s Information on One Side of the Challenge Coin

A great idea would be to design a coin in the shape of a Christmas tree or a wrapped present.  You can include your company name, the year, and tie the design back to the theme of your party.  Guests will truly appreciate the challenge coin and keep it for many years to come.  That’s why custom coins make great gifts.  They’re personal, memorable, and unique.

Christmas Challenge Coins for Members of the Military

Another idea for Christmas coins involves the military.  You can create a challenge coin in the shape of an ornament and ship it to your loved ones overseas.  This is a great way to bring the holiday spirit to different parts of the world.  As you can see from the picture here, one of our customers thought this was the perfect idea for them.

Personal Gifts Make a Long Lasting Impression on Recipients

Can you imagine the emotions that will be going through the spouse and children of the solider when they receive a challenge coin in the mail that is in the shape of an ornament?  Every time they walk by the tree, they will instantly think of their loved one.  Such a personalized gift is meaningful and the memory of receiving that coin will last a lifetime.

There is still time left to contact us to begin the design process for your holiday coins.  Remember that coins don’t have to be perfectly round but can actually be just about any shape you can think of (e.g. tree, wreath, presents, candy canes etc.).  Visit today to see samples of coins we have created for other customers.  You can also email or call 1-800-252-0904 to request a free price quote.  We’ll also send you a full color digital proof to look over and approve.

Hospice Challenge Coin Takes Advantage of Silkscreen Technique to Achieve Great Detail

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

Hospice is a type of care and philosophy of care that helps terminally ill people deal with physical, emotional, spiritual, and social symptoms of whatever sickness they are battling.  The concept is constantly evolving but has been around since the 11th century.  Modern day hospice provides care for individuals in hospitals and nursing homes as well as those that have chosen to stay in their own homes during the last stages of life.  Big in the United States, hospice care has expanded to the United Kingdom and many other countries.

Silkscreening Coins Allows Them to Be Exact Replicas of a Logo or Photograph

The North Central Oklahoma Hospice recently asked us to help design a coin for their branch.  Their artwork was very sharp and crisp and was not going to be able to be recreated using standard challenge coin manufacturing.  We recommended going with a silkscreen technique that would allow us to show all of the small details and crisp separations between the colors

Small Text is More Visible on Silkscreened Challenge Coins

The best way to see the silkscreen versus an enamel filled area is to look at the border of the text or any of the images.  What you will see is the absence of a metal stroke going around the border.  This is the tell-tale way to recognize silkscreening on coins.  Another benefit of using silkscreening is we can print small text as seen on the challenge coin featured here.

Honoring Committed Individuals with a Personalized Gift

The challenge coin makes a great piece of memorabilia for the men and women who work tirelessly in important jobs like hospice care.  It takes a very special person to provide assistance for individuals that have reached their final chapter in life.  Honoring their dedication and professional with custom challenge coins is a great thing to do.

Custom coins can be used to honor any type of worker.  If you want a memorable way to thank the men and women that add to your business’ success, you should create custom challenge coins.  Attractive and long lasting, they make the perfect gift any time of year.  Visit today to request a free quote.  You can also submit your inquiries to or call 1-800-252-0904.
