Years of Service Challenge Coins

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Most major companies and organizations have a history of rewarding its employees, member and or volunteers for the time they spend serving or working for the company. Historically, lapel pins have been used as years of service tokens. Lately more and more companies are switching to challenge coins as awards for years of service.

Challenge coins, because of the weight and size, have a higher perceived value than lapel pins. In return, the people receiving the challenge coins tend to cherish the award even more. You’ll see custom challenge coins on display in homes and offices around the world.

A great example of using challenge coins as years of service awards come from the coins we design and produced for Rio Tinto Minerals, a mining operation in California. All the coins feature the same front side which is company’s logo.

The reverse side of the coin has a unique mold (or die) for each year of service the coins are intended for. Including a date on the challenge coins helps make them memorable. Recipients that earn the coins know exactly what year they were given out. This makes them the ultimate keepsake.

Employee recognition programs are beneficial to both the employer and the employee. Not only are workers more productive, better leaders, absent less and more conscientious about safety, they are more likely to stay with the same business for years. This benefits the employer because production is steady, turnover is low, and morale is high.

Challenge Coins for Foundations

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Foundations of all sorts are established in an effort to provide help and assistance towards the cause they represent. During wartime many foundations are keyed in on helping soldiers returning from war. Many of these foundations have included challenge coins in the care package they provide to returning soldiers and their families.

The David Lynch Foundation, for example, was established to help people heal from traumatic stress. The help they provide is spread out over all age groups from young school aged children to adults returning from war.

We worked with the David Lynch foundation to develop a challenge coin design that honors the veterans they serve. We were able to incorporate the foundation’s name and logo on one side of the coin and the opposite side of the coins features the seal of the five branches of the military. It was important to include all five branches on the challenge coins since their service is provide to members of all five branches.

The coin is plated in high polished silver and has a custom bezel edge to enhance the overall look.  Decorative edges are one of the quickest ways to change the look of our custom challenge coins.  In addition to bezel edges, we offer:

  • Oblique Edges
  • Cross Cut Edges
  • Rope Edges

You can alter the appearance of your custom challenge coins in a number of different ways.  Decorative edges are only one way.  We also offer 3D molds which make images distinct and realistic.  Sequential numbering is great for limited edition coins.  It helps with the item’s perceived value.

Mardi Gras Celebration Challenge Coins

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Mardi Gras is an exciting time of year for many people.  It is known as Fat Tuesday because it refers to the practice of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of Lent which begins on Ash Wednesday.  People around the world celebrate the joyous occasion by wearing elaborate costumes and masks, dancing, competing in athletic games and tournaments, and participating in parades.

Some cities famous for Mardi Gras celebrations include Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Barranquilla, Colombia; Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago; Quebec City, Canada; Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico; and New Orleans, Louisiana, United States.  In addition to traditional activities like feasting on King’s Cake and Jambalaya, people collect unique souvenirs like beads and custom challenge coins.

Challenge coins in particular are rich with symbolism and full of sentiment.  Travelers to New Orleans, LA never forget their trip.  They can take a look at their coin and remember every detail of that year’s Mardi Gras celebration.  This is especially true if the challenge coins have the date and location of the event imprinted on them.  They are considered even more special because they have significance and relevancy.

Mardi Gras challenge coins can have bottle opener mechanisms contained within them.  This makes it easy to open drinks while out and about in the streets of New Orleans.  They can also have 3D symbols, sequential numbering or decorative edges.  All add to the appearance of the challenge coin and make it even more incredible to look at.

Order your own Mardi Gras celebration challenge coins.  Visit http://www.challengecoinsplus.com.  You can also email info@challengecoinsplus.com or call 1-800-252-0904 toll-free.  We will send you a full color digital proof and free price quote once you inquire about our services.

Community Challenge Coins Have a Number of Different Uses

Monday, February 20th, 2012

Challenge Coins can be used for a wide variety of organizations, groups, and events.  The common denominator among the use of challenge coins is pride of participation and membership.  Communities around our country are always working to instill a sense of pride into its residents and those people elected to represent the residents at the government level. Challenge coins are great tool to use that helps people feel like they belong.

We were recently contacted by the Yuma County, AR Human Resources Department. They wanted to create a couple of different challenge coins to be awarded to its board members and elected officials. The county has two logos, one is a seal of the county and the other is the logo used on letterhead and other advertisements. We were able to take both images and incorporate them onto the challenge coins. Our graphics team plated the challenge coin in a bright silver plating and were able to match the original colors of Yuma Count’s logo and seal.

Custom coins like the ones mentioned in this blog are a great way to get other people interested in a community and its businesses.  That’s why it’s so important to choose an eye catching logo or image to feature on them.  This grabs people’s attention and gets them involved in whatever it is that you are trying to promote.  They will see the coins and understand the message behind them.

Set your city apart from others in the state by ordering custom challenge coins.  They’re attractive, long lasting, and filled with personal meaning.  Visit http://www.challengecoinsplus.com, email info@challengecoinsplus.com or call 1-800-252-0904 toll-free.  We’ll send a free price quote and full color digital proof for you to look over.

Location Specific Challenge Coins Make Every Trip More Personal

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

Every trip that you take has the potential of being very special.  That’s why it isn’t unusual for you to bring home a souvenir from your travels.  Something as unique as a custom challenge coin from New York can provide you with years of fond memories.  That’s because location specific, custom challenge coins are much more than an attractive memento.  They are a link to your past and the businesses, groups, and organizations that you affiliate yourself with.

Custom challenge coins from locations like New York City are handed out at seminars, conventions, trade shows, fundraisers, and galas.  They are highly regarded because they are made from quality materials and crafted with care.  Custom NY coins can be single or double sided.  They can be attached to other items like plaques or hung from a ribbon like a medallion.

New York City challenge coins do not have to be round or square.  They can be cut-to-shape to resemble the image or photograph that is on them.  This helps give them a distinct look and increases their appeal.  Visually stimulating images can be enhanced even further by using a 3D mold.  This helps the images come to life on the surface of the NY challenge coin.

Location based challenge coins can be displayed in a person’s home or office easily.  They can be collected over the years and placed in a cabinet or rack for others to see.  People will love seeing where you’ve traveled and what types of activities you’ve participated in.  That’s what makes collecting location based challenge coins fun and interesting.

The next time you’re away on business, make sure to pick up a challenge coin at the conference or trade show that you’re attending.  It will add an element of excitement to your trip to New York City and will leave you with a long lasting memento that you can enjoy for years and years.

Military Reunion Challenge Coins Strengthen Bonds

Monday, February 13th, 2012

Military vets share a common bond with one another that few can lay claim to. Having served in the military together is one thing, having served during wartime or conflict is something completely different. These vets have been displaying this common bond by producing challenge coins that display the union and common bond they have with one another. Challenge coins allow them to feature information about their service in the military along with information that is specific to the reunion date or event.

In the spirit of Black History Month, a group of Black Korean war veterans are getting together this month (February 2012) for a reunion. We helped them design challenge coins for their event. One side features the logo used by the Department of Defense Korean War Commemoration Committee, the other side of the challenge coins is completely customized with the event date, the image of a soldier and the motto adopted by this group of war veterans.

Custom gift items like these strengthen bonds because they help vets remember the past.  They can take a look at their challenge coin and be reminded of the time that they served in the military.  Custom coins often have locations, dates, and emblems on them which make them personal souvenirs for everyone that they are given to.

Police Department Challenge Coins Honor Bravery and Determination

Friday, February 10th, 2012

Military units are the most common challenge coins customer. In a very close second are police departments. Very few occupations face the dangers and challenges as our nation’s police forces. What better way to reward these brave men and women than with a custom challenge coins that shows how much the department and their community appreciate the work they do.

Rutherford County Sheriff Department did just that. We produced challenge coins for them that feature the badges worn by all the officers on one side. We were able to add dual plating of gold and silver to the badge side of the challenge coins since the badge worn by the Rutherford County Sheriff deputies is plated in both gold and silver plating. They wanted to make sure the badge on their challenge coins was as close to an exact match to the actual badge.

The reverse side of the challenge coins is a beautiful 3D mold of the patron saint of law enforcement, St. Michael.  3D molding is a great way to make your custom challenge coins stand out.  They help give designs dimension and make them visually attractive.  The same can be said about decorative edges.  Items like these add to the overall design of a custom challenge coin.

Choosing a 3D image has its advantages.  See for yourself by taking a look at our coin gallery.  You’ll find it located at http://www.challengecoinsplus.com/gallery.html.  Notice the detail of each coin.  Take note of the size, shapes, and styles that appeal to you the most.  Then, give us a call or send us an email that includes your idea or concept in it.

Challenge Coin Border Options

Monday, February 6th, 2012

Challenge coins are custom made to order and the sky is the limit when it comes to design possibilities.  When creating a round challenge coin there are border options that can help enhance the look of the coin.  Details like these add to the overall appeal and value of the coin.

Here are the border options that we offer to our customers:

  • Standard Edge or Flat Edge – Most common type of edge and is included at no additional cost.
  • Rope Edge – A great look for coins with a nautical theme or for US Navy challenge coins.
  • Oblique Edge – This type of edge is available at an additional cost. It consists of a series of swirled lines around the border of the coin. The edges of the lines are brightly polished and the directions of the lines almost give an appearance of a circular motion. Oblique edges are the most common border upgrade for the challenge coins we produce.
  • Bezel Edge – Also a very popular edge upgrade for the challenge coins we produce. The bezel edge is made of dips and high points around the edge of the coin. Each high and low point reflects the light differently giving a very classic look to the edge of the coin.
  • Cross Cut Edge also known as Diamond Cut – An additional fee applies to a cross cut edge as well. The lines are cut in a crisscross pattern forming diamonds shapes on the edge of the coin. This challenge coin edge gives off the brightest shine of all the edges because the direction of the cuts reflects the most light off the surface of the coin.

Choosing a decorative edge for your challenge coin is easy.  Take a look at our website located at http://www.challengecoinsplus.com to see samples of different coins created with a Standard Edge, Rope Edge, Oblique Edge, Bezel Edge or Cross Cut Edge today.  You can request a free price quote and digital proof by emailing info@challengecoinsplus.com or calling 1-800-252-0904 toll-free.  Your custom challenge coins with decorative edges are only an email or phone call away.
