The Coast Guard is one of seven armed services in the United States of America. Founded in 1790 by Alexander Hamilton, it is a maritime, military, multi-mission service with maritime law enforcement powers. As of August 2009, the US Coast Guard had approximately 42,000 men and women on active duty, 7,500 reservists, 30,000 auxiliarists, and 7,700 full-time civilian employees.
Like other branches of the military, we’ve had the distinct pleasure of working with members of the United States Coast Guard to create attractive and memorable challenge coins for upcoming events and awards ceremonies. Double sided challenge coins are perfect for military milestones and recognition programs. Using symbols and mottos that are familiar to guardsmen, we are able to create unique gift items rich in personal meaning and sentimental value.
Custom challenge coins are attractive and practical. Because of their long military ties, they are highly regarded by the Coast Guard of the United States. Guardsmen collect coins with pride. They know that receiving one is quite an accomplishment. Challenge coin rules require recipients to carry their coins with them at all times. This allows them to stand up when challenged in a bar or pub. Presenting an acceptable challenge coin prevents service men and women from having to buy drinks for the challengers. In fact, it can earn them the right to their choice of beverage in many social settings.
Because challenge coins are presented while out, many of our Coast Guard US customers order bottle opener challenge coins. A bottle opener challenge coin appears to be very similar to a regular challenge coin. The main difference is the bottle opener mechanism contained within the coin. This makes the item a valuable tool when out and about.
